dAMON & chrishonda Burgess

are the founders of The Art of Living. The Art of Living was founded in 2009 with both a personal and professional mission of Mr. and Mrs. Burgess of creating an agency that would serve as a home away from home. A place where individuals are encouraged to be different, supported by trained staff, and cared for in a safe and nurturing environment. These were all qualities and expectations that came naturally for Chrishonda and Damon, whom primary role in life is being loving parents to their three sons aka the three amigos Braylen, Bryson, and Braiden. Mr. and Mrs. Burgess knew that the day they became one that they had made a lifelong commitment to each other. However, it was important for them to go into another commitment together. A commitment that required their continued loved, wealth of knowledge, and passion to help those who crossed their paths.

Mr. and Mrs. Burgess began their commitment prior to launching The Art of Living fostering kids placed into DFACS custody. They served as a caregiver, advocate, and mentor for both males and females of all ages. It was through their fostering that they learned that life can be very fulfilling, if you can live each day knowing that you have made a difference in someone’s life. Though it was difficult, Chrishonda and Damon were able to fulfill the purpose on daily basis, while meeting their education goals. Chrishonda Burgess is a graduate of the Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA, where she earned a bachelors degree in Psychology. She continued her studies at Cambridge College in Boston, Massachusetts, where she received her Master’s in Counseling. Through her studies and internships Chrishonda was afforded the opportunity of working at Creative Community Services as a Clinical Supervisor. She also worked as a Support Coordinator for Creative Community Services. Damon Burgess is former member of the US Armed Forces. He received his Bachelors in Computer Science from Devry University in Atlanta, GA. Mr. Burgess was formerly employed at Bellsouth as an IT Specialist. He also spent over 8 years working in Real Estate and the Construction industry. Collectively Damon and Chrishonda were able to merge their education and experience and are now responsible for the daily operation of  day support centers and residential programs in the Metro Atlanta area.

They contribute their success to their strong family background, supportive community, church family, various friends, and relatives. They are strong believers of the quote “What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others remains forever.”
